Worship Helpers
Greeters are the folks who stand by the
front doors and say “Hello” to the people that are coming into church. It’s an
easy job, and makes visitors feel welcomed. We need 2
Greeters at each service
Acolytes – After taking First Communion,
our Grade 3 – 6 youngsters are available to serve as acolytes. The acolytes
take the candlelighters up to the altar and light the altar candles. They take
the offering plates and communion elements from the ushers, and help serve
communion. At the end of the service, they extinguish the altar candles and
take the flame back out of the sanctuary. Two
acolytes are needed at most services, three on special occasions.
Ushers hand out bulletins, count
attendance, take the collection, and release rows to go for communion; one releases
people to the two front stations, one releases people to the rear station. We need two ushers at each service.
Assisting Minister, or Worship
Assistant, is the
term for the layperson that helps lead the service. They fill in for the
reader, if one is not scheduled. They write prayer petitions, which are shared
during the Prayers of the People and help serve communion. One W.A. is needed at each service.
The Reader is the person who reads the
first (and second, if there is one) reading for the service. One reader is needed at each service.
Communion Assistants are the folks who help serve the
communion meal. They hold the cup trays, saying “The blood of Christ, shed for
you.” Two or three are scheduled for each
service.
The Worship Coordinator makes sure the
other scheduled helpers are at service, and pulls last-minute substitutes if
they’re not. They answer phone calls and questions (what time are services,
where is the nursery, etc.) that arise. One
W.C is needed at each service.
ABC (Altar, Baptism, and Communion) is the group that sets up for
services. The altar is prepared according to the church year calendar;
communion is set up by service (you only set up for the service, not the whole
weekend). This group also sets out the items (water, baptismal cloth, candle,
and oil) for any baptisms at their service time. One household does ABC at each service.
Sound tech is the name for the person that
runs the soundboard. They control sound volume for the microphones and mute
unused microphones. They tape the service, which is then available for members’
use (and uploaded to our website). We need one
Sound tech at each service.
Counters count and record monetary
offerings after the services. Three
people are scheduled to count after the last service on Sunday. Please do not
begin counting until at least two of the counters are present.
