It was when Sherrie was in the 7th grade that she began to feel a call to ordained ministry and is the 7th person (and the 4th woman) ordained from her home congregation of Grace Lutheran. She majored in Religion at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, one of the 28 colleges of the ELCA. She received her Master of Divinity degree from the Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago. Through seminary, she served at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church in Milwaukee and Bethany Lutheran in Escanaba, MI. Her husband Matthew is a Master Electrician and owns his own electrical business. She can be contacted at 262-785-9420 or joann@crossoflife.org.
I began my job at Cross of Life as the volunteer Sunday School Director in 1989 when the job description was little more than recruiting teachers and ordering supplies. Over the years it has evolved into a full-time staff position overseeing programming for young learners through confirmation. I continue to recruit the Sunday School staff and work with them throughout the school year. I also work with the Education Committee as we organize special learning and fellowship events including Winter Lock-in’s, Vacation Bible School, Summer Sunday School and Lent School.
A teacher at heart, I teach a Sunday School class on Saturday evening and am a part of the Confirmation teaching team. I have discovered over the years I love to write and rewrite curriculum for all our various programs. As much as I love the classroom, I am totally energized by the adventures with our kids that bring me outdoors - camping with the confirmation class and spending a week at Lutherdale Bible Camp.
I am the proud mother of three grown children! I enjoy a brisk walk with my husband, Kevin and our black lab, Mason.
Our director of Youth and Young Adults is Joshua Young.
Josh is a recent graduate of Arizona State University and started at Cross of Life in October of 2009. With a Parks and Recreation Management degree he has previously worked with the YMCA, Youth for Christ and other youth ministries. He has a heart for all youth and a vision for each one of them to experience God. As the new youth director he hopes to establish connections within the church as well outside of the church. He looks forward to the new year and all that God has planned. In his free time he loves playing sports and playing guitar. If you have any questions about youth or sports activities please contact Josh at josh@crossoflife.org or 262.785.9420
Christine Standley
is the Director of Music Ministry. You can contact her at chris@crossoflife.org or 262-785-9420. Before coming to Cross of Life in 1999, she served congregations in the Pewaukee area and in California. She enjoys working with people of all ages, and strives to engage as many people as possible in the musical life of the congregation. Christine also serves as accompanist for the choirs at Wisconsin Hills Middle School and has taught pre-school, working primarily with 3-year-olds. She is married and has two grown daughters. She enjoys working in the yard, doing crossword puzzles and taking walks with friends and family.
The Director of the Gloria Dei Adult Handbell Choir is Mary Pulvermacher.
Lynn Key is the Organist at Cross of Life. She can be reached at 262-785-9420.
Susie and her husband Mark have been members of Cross of Life since 1987.
Susie began working at church in 1998, a few hours a week,
while raising Matt and Molly. Over the years her job description
has changed and now she coordinates Adult Programs and Servant Ministry opportunities.
Best part of her job...meeting and building friendships with
our members and our servant partners and coming up with new
and interesting events and speakers that energize our congregation.
In her free time she loves walking, gardening, spending time with family
and friends and floating in the pool.
If you have questions about service opportunities, adult opportunities
or any of our Small Groups, please contact Susie
Debbie Riederer is one of our part-time administrators. Debbie has been at Cross of Life since December of 1999. She enjoys working with the staff and the members of Cross of Life. One of the greatest things about her job is meeting and welcoming new people into the family of Cross of Life. She does a variety of administrative tasks such as pastoral support for the church council and the confirmation program, wedding coordinating, newsletter publication, and she’s responsible for the church phone system. Debbie provides administrative support for the New Member classes, and is also support for our Lutherdale camping Ministry program. She puts together the Lifeline, our church newsletter. If you have something to share in our newsletter, you can contact Debbie at 262-785-9420 or debbie@crossoflife.org. In her free time she likes to walk, do yoga, bike, read, visit with friends, and go to Home Depot because her house is always in some state of being remodeled.
Holly Sorenson grew up in Nebraska, and still misses the plains sometimes. She started at Cross of Life in 2003 as the Bookkeeper and her position has expanded since then to include Administrative and Program Support for Christian Education, Stewardship, and Worship and Music. She lives with her husband, Jon and their two children. Besides driving the kids around to various activities, Holly likes to read mysteries, cook, take long brisk walks and go to coffee with friends. She can be reached at 262-785-9420 or holly@crossoflife.org.
Cindy Boyd is also a part-time administrator.
Cindy is the person to contact regarding the volunteer worship schedule. She maintains the church website, provides administrative support to the Youth Programs, orders supplies, and helps with the wedding coordinating. You can contact her at 262-785-9420 or cindy@crossoflife.org. Cindy has worked at Cross of Life since 2004. She is married and has three children. In her spare time (ha!), she likes to take her springer spaniel on twice-daily walks, quilt and cross-stitch, and taxi her children to their various activities,.
Pastors John Horner-Ibler and Sherrie Lorbeck lead hope-filled and inspiring services, guiding our congregation to grow in our faith.
Their primary focus is equipping members for life and ministry. The Pastors' passion for the Bible encourages a deepening of our spirituality by bringing the Bible alive and connecting its message to our lives. This helps us to channel the energy of that message to go forth and serve others. Thanks be to God!
