Sunday Morning Conversations

Our Senior High youth group meets weekly for Sunday Morning Conversations.  These Conversations are generally led by several adult leaders, along with youth. Topics range from marriage(with a visit from one of our Older, Wiser Lutheran couples who have been married for 50+ years) to discussions of the weekly Scripture reading - and how it affects our lives.

Sunday Night Events

Sunday Evening Events are the Senior High group's fun fellowship meetings.  They meet nearly every week, with activities and devotions (and food, set-up, and clean-up) planned by members of the Youth Board (and their adult leaders).  The Youth Board is a select group of Senior High Youth who sign a covenant that states they will volunteer to plan and lead group activities and devotions. Responsibilities include setting a good example, demonstrating enthusiasm, inviting friends, and attending monthly Youth Board meetings.  Activities that are planned may include service events (serving Thanksgiving lunch at Cross Lutheran Church, visiting at Cathedral Center), off-site fellowship events (IMAX movies,, ice skating, bowling), on-site fellowship (Lock-ins, scavenger hunts), and planning activites for our future senior highers (our 7th and 8th graders). One of the first get-togethers we do in the fall is our scavenger hunt.  The scavenger hunt is fun for the participants,  and also provides canned goods and other necessities for the local food pantry.

Other senior high group activities include the annual winter ski trip (a weekend trip up to Granite Peak), a visit to Sunburst (to ski, snowboard, or snowtube), lock-ins (with activities such as Midnight Bowling, and of course, Crazy Uncle!), and IMAX movies. The senior high youth group also enjoys fellowship with other local churches, as we explore local corn mazes or go ice-skating. Twice a year, the Senior High group packs up care packages for our recent grads who are attending college.

Senior High Summer Trips

Every summer, Cross of Life is fortunate to offer a major trip for its Senior High Youth.  We are blessed to have interested and committed adults who give their time in planning and attending these awsome trips. The trips are offered in a three-year rotation model. We provide a Servant trip one year, a trip to the National ELCA Youth Gathering the next year, followed by a High Adventure trip the third year.  Each trip has its own share of challenges and priceless rewards.  All the trips are planned with Christ at the center.  We work on showing our Youth how they are a part of the body of Christ and how He works in each of their lives as well.  These trips provide lifelong memories and the joy of belonging to a true Faith family. In recent years, our servant trips have taken us to places like Akron Ohio, and the Black Hills of South Dakota.  We've been to Atlanta and San Antonio for the National Youth Gatherings, and the kids have challenged themselves with trips in places like Isle Royale in Lake Superior and the Boundary Waters in Canada.
