On July 11, 2007, Agape Community Center, in collaboration with Bread of Healing Clinic, Florist Ave. Lutheran Church, and the College of Nursing at Cardinal Stritch University, will celebrate the opening of a free medical clinic:
· staffed by volunteer physicians, including pediatricians, and volunteer nurses, all who donate their time and expertise.
· Cardinal Stritch University College of Nursing will provide additional nursing supports. The clinic’s services will be solely funded by donations and contributed services.
· Initially, the clinic will be open by appointment on Wednesday evenings, from 6:00 pm- 8:30 pm, with additional hours added as the number of participants grows.
“We’re collaborating to ensure that families who face short term and long term health and medical challenges, but who do not qualify for government-funded medical assistance and who do not have private health insurance, can receive the medical treatment they need,” notes Sister Patrice Colletti, a Sister of the Divine Savior serving as Executive Director at Agape Community Center. “Agape Community Center has been a part of the local neighborhood here for more than twenty years, so we are thrilled to help make this clinic a reality. Our Community Center’s youth, teen, adult, intergenerational, and neighborhood development programming focuses on prevention and on building a strong, healthy community. Our clinic will allow us to offer our neighbors yet another opportunity to get healthy, and stay healthy.”
Community leaders and collaborators will participate in a brief blessing and opening ceremony at 6:00 pm on July 11, 2007, at Agape Community Center, 6100 N. 42nd Street, with the first patient appointment scheduled for 6:30 pm that same evening. For information on the clinic’s services to the area surrounding Sherman Blvd and Silver Spring Drive, or to make a medical appointment, please contact Parish Nurse Donna Nesler at Florist Ave. Lutheran Church, 466-3169.
