Care for Creation

Caring for the world and its inhabitants is what we mean when we talk about COL’s Care for Creation group. Why worry about buying paper cups and plates? COL is often nicknamed “Cake of Life” because we know how important it is to gather for worship and for fellowship, whether it is cake and coffee or a full meal. COL has a well-equipped kitchen with labeled drawers and cupboards to help you find things easier, so we encourage you to use the dishes instead of disposable ones.  Don’t worry about clean-up – it’s a breeze with two dishwashers in the kitchen and one in the sacristy!

Lots of other little things, like reusable communion cups, programmable thermostats, and our participation in the fair trade Lutheran World Hunger coffee and chocolate projects are just some of the ways COL seeks to care for God’s creation. There’s always more and different things to be done though…

-         by learning more about the issues our environment faces and how we can each do our part to help.

-         buying locally and seeking to buy products that give fair wages to those who  grow or make the product.

-         working to be as energy efficient, and as low-impact as possible, at our building and at those of our partners.
