Advent Fest is This Friday!

Each year, Cross of Life welcomes the season of Advent with an evening of music, church decorating, snacks, fellowship and crafts.

Advent Fest will be Friday, December 5 from 6:15-8:00 p.m.

This wonderful evening has something for everyone at every age.  If you would like to make a Christ-in-Christmas craft

during Advent Fest, please check the craft sample table in the Fellowship Hall to see where there are openings.

There is a small charge for each craft, to cover the cost of the materials.

Servant Opportunities

Used Snow Blower Needed.  Our partner the Genesis House (a Lutheran Social Services group home, for residents struggling with drug and alcohol issues, is in need of a snow blower, in good condition.  If you are thinking of upgrading your current snow blower this year and are willing to donate your old one, please give Genesis House advocate Mark Hilgart a call (548-9296).  Thank you.

Pill Sorting Opportunities.  Thanks to many generous COL members and friends, the donations of medications for the Bread of Healing Free Clinic are filling the storage area to the brim.  We are thrilled to be in need of volunteers to help with  pill sorting.  We could use helpers on the following date and time:

  • Wednesday December 3rd at 6:30-8:090 pm
  • Thursday December 4th at 9:30-11:30 am
  • Tuesday December 9th, 6:30-8:00 pm
  • Thursday December 11th, 6:30-8:00 pm
  • Thursday December 18th, 9:30-11:30 am

We will meet in the lower level of the Sunday School wing.  Contact Dale or Robin Whitehead at 970-9631 with any questions.

The Monday Morning Quilters would like to thank everyone who was so generous with their donations to help with the cost of shipping our quilts this year.  We are now looking for volunteers to cut fabric at your leisure at home.  We have the fabric ready for cutting and will provide the easy to follow instructions.  You can even use our cutting boards and cutting wheels if you don’t have your own.  Also, if you are doing some fall closet cleaning and have sheets that you are no longer using we will put them to good use as backings for our quilts.  Any questions call Kathy Conrad (262-392-4015)

Ring the Salvation Army Bell. Again this year, the Salvation Army is looking for volunteers for their Brookfield Square kettle during the annual Christmas Salvation Army fund appeal.  We will be manning the kettle at the inside entrance to the Sears store at the south end of the Mall.  We are looking for volunteers to cover one hour shifts on Tuesday December 2, Wednesday Dec. 10, Thursday Dec. 18, and Monday Dec. 22 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. <>All you have to do is show up, put on a happy face, greet the shoppers passing by and enjoy as the Christmas Spirit does its thing.  Sign-up for ringing is on the Servanthood Board, or call the church office at 262-785-9420 or Bruce Davidson at 262-786-4372 to set up a time.

Interested in a Possible Roofing Project in El Salvador?   <>We’re in the initial stages of working with our Synod’s partner community, Rutilio Grande to make plans to re-roof the homes in their town. Possible dates are February 14-21, 2009 to coincide with the dental/medical trip that goes at that time. If you are interested in learning more about either trip, talk to either Pastor, Susie Hilgart or Jim Baumgartner. If people are available in February, we might start then.  If you’re interested, but can’t go then, let us know because this would be a multi-year project. The homes are one story and the roofs are a composite material similar to sheet metal, attached by bolts to metal supports.  The work will require adept use of basic tools while on ladders or the roof itself.</span

Green Option for Receiving Newsletter

There are lots of good reasons to subscribe to the newsletter online!

When you subscribe to the newsletter online we save paper, ink, labels and the cost of postage. The newsletter is bulk mailed and that means it can take three days or more to receive, but when you subscribe online you get it the day it’s printed!  Now that’s timely!  To subscribe simply go to the Cross of Life website, and click on “news” on the left side of the home page.  At the bottom of the news page click on “mailing lists” and then click on newsletter-subscribe@crossoflife.org at the bottom of the “mailing lists” page.  This will bring you to an e-mail form addressed to newsletter-subscribe@crossoflife.org.  Type in the e mail address you want your newsletter sent to and hit send. You will then get an e mail back confirming that you want to subscribe to the newsletter- it is important to reply back to this e mail indicating that you would like to receive the newsletter (otherwise the process is not complete!).  If you want more than one person in the household to receive the newsletter, just repeat the process for each additional e-mail address.   All your future newsletters will come by e-mail - you won't receive a copy by snail mail.  Contact Debbie Riederer – debbie@crossoflife.org with any questions.
